I’m a 26 year old journalist with a massive love for all things beauty, style and fitness. After graduating from the University of Kent with a degree in Comparative Literature in 2012, I bagged an editorial internship at Pride Magazine where I worked closely under the Fashion & Beauty Editor, Shevelle Rhule, for a few months.
In June 2013, I landed my first full-time role as a Junior Writer at a monthly hair & beauty supplement – available in Pride Magazine and online – called Spell Magazine. During the 19 months that I spent in this role, I produced copy for the publications’ print and digital outlets, covered coveted events such as London Fashion Week and had the opportunity to interview celebrities including Beverley Knight, A*M*E and Dionne Bromfield.
At the start of 2015, I decided to dive into the wonderful world of freelance journalism while I work on a few personal projects. I trained in radio production and presenting at Westside FM, which led to a couple of live event hosting gigs, as well as a weekly co-host spot on On Top Radio. I also worked with Media Spotlight TV in the Summer of 2015, covering the Island Beats festival at Thorpe Park, where I interviewed celebrities including R&B singer Kieran Alleyne, former Disney channel star Brad Kavanagh and singer/songwriter Jerry Williams, but to name a few.
In March 2015, I also launched my very own YouTube channel to share my personal weight loss story with the world. In less than a year, my channel attracted over a quarter of a million views and a loyal fan-base of subscribers. The aim of my YouTube channel is to inspire and empower everyday people to get healthy in the most natural way possible. My weight loss story has also been featured in major media outlets including UK Women’s Health Magazine and BBC Radio 5 Live on Adrian Chiles’ breakfast show.
Alongside my YouTube channel, I also launched my #SlimDownWithSue weight loss campaign, which involves daily fitspiration via my social media outlets, weight loss challenges and workshops. In November 2015, I was hired by Pride Magazine, as their Health and Well-being columnist and my monthly #SlimDownWithSue column was the result of this.
I specialise in beauty and health journalism but also have a keen interest in showbiz . Currently, I am available for editorial commissions, shift-cover and copy-writing projects that fall under my areas of expertise. I am also available for event hosting and presenting opportunities.
I am currently contributing to elleuk.com, stylist.co.uk, stylenest.co.uk, melanmag.com, Pride Magazine and Spell Magazine. Feel free to have a look at my most-recent writing samples and please do not hesitate to contact me with any queries.
